Learn about Yuanse Technology

Yuanse is developing a new generation display technology, which will make displays lighter, thinner, and more power efficient. Yuanse displays will also be more eye-friendly and function extremely well under bright light environments.

Yuanse's method comprises of three key components:

Non-RGB Color:In conventional displays, color in pixels are realized through RGB subpixels. Each subpixel is dedicated to displaying its own primary color and all other parts of the light spectrum are completely wasted. As a result, the color from an RGB pixel can, at best, only achieve 33% reflectivity. Yuanse's non-RGB method does not waste any portion of the light spectrum and can significantly increase brightness. With Yuanse’s method, each pixel can generate any color over the full CIE chromaticity locus. This enables its displays to achieve SNAP news printing standard.

Simple FPI Structure:An analog color FPI pixel can selectively reflect light when the cavity depth between a micromirror is adjusted for a monochromatic wavelength in the visible spectrum. This method requires no dyes, pigments, or any other color materials. Instead, the suspended micromirror changes colors by moving over the light spectrum for desired color. The simple modulator structure allows for a simple manufacturing process and low cost production.

Self-Parallelizing Modulators:The movable micromirror in suspension is actuated and cycled through different positions with a strictly defined orientation. The modulator is structurally simple because the complexity of fabrication is transferred to external electronics driving mechanisms, making low cost manufacturing options, such as roll to roll possible. Our multiple electrode driving mechanism can keep the mirrors parallel during the actuation. Fabrication errors would not change the parallel relationship.

Learn about Reflective Displays

Reflective display panels have a number of benefits over traditional emissive and transmissive display panels:

In recent years, a number of companies have begun developing reflective displays. Only black and white E-Ink technology (as seen on the Amazon Kindle) has become widespread. To date, no company has been able to work around the complex manufacturing issues of making a bright, fast, video-capable reflective color display. Yuanse seeks to change this.

Exceptional Performance Under Bright Light
Traditional emissive and transmissive displays give off light to compete with ambient light, making them difficult to view under bright lighting conditions. Reflective displays do not give off light and are thus ideal for outdoor use.
Tremendous Energy Savings
Rather than competing against ambient light, reflective displays work with ambient light to generate images. They use very little battery power and are more energy efficient.
Greater Reader Comfort
Competing ambient light negatively affects the image quality of emissive and transmissive displays. The poor image quality causes eyestrain after extended use. Reflective displays are more comfortable to use and healthier for our eyes.

Our Intellectual Property

Today's mobile device LCD displays are very energy inefficient and difficult to view under bright ambient light. Existing reflective displays are energy efficient and perform well under bright light, but are too dark, slow, and costly to manufacture. Because of this, they still have yet to replace light emissive displays. Yuanse's innovative technology, based on our utility patent portfolio, will change this. Our method makes it possible to create paper-like displays that are bright, colorful, and video capable.
